I believe it’s an envelope for a company that made and sold Men’s shirts in Paris. This next offering is not actually and invoice, but inside the front of an Envelope that possibly held an invoice at some point.Ĭlick HERE for the full size Printable PDF of the Paris Chemiserie Envelope Still beautiful though! French Business Envelope This looks like it would be for something sooo romantic, but I think actually it has something to do with hardware. Here we have a beautiful example of fabulous antique French typography! The site re-launched at AEA Atlanta 2015 through a collaboration between Tim Brown and Scott Kellum. About this websiteįirst introduced at Build 2010 by Tim Brown, this site was built as a tool to help web designers size their type in a more meaningful way. You can also refer back to function values in the output pane here at - when you are using the plugins, you can just drop these functions into your project to get the associated value. Change the number in the function, and you get different values from your scale. When you have things all set up, use the function ms(0) in your Sass or JS. Finally, near the bottom of the calculator, use the Sass or JS tab to copy configuration code into your project.Head over to the pages to find out more: Sass and JavaScript First, you need to install them in your project. It also saves you the effort of having to remember values. This web calculator is a good way to reference scales and visually create them, but having a modular scale calculator right in your project allows you to change your scales on the fly. They are amazing, but they do require setup. But if there are two bases and two ratios, it's possible that numbers from the scale's output could be completely unrelated to one another. Similarly, if multiple bases share the same ratio, that's what ties the scale together. Even if two numbers in the scale's output are from different strands, they began at the same place. If multiple ratios share the same base, they are united by that base. Why can't I use multiple bases and ratios?īecause that would really dilute the scale. (Try entering a second base or ratio, and you'll see the a/b labeling in this calculator's output pane.) Multi-stranded modular scales are powerful because they add more numbers to your scale, and that flexibility means it's more likely that a number from your scale will work in your project. Any more than that is a multi-stranded modular scale. Sure! One base with one ratio is a modular scale. If the scale-based sizes in your project's CSS are essentially variables, you can try different ratios to see how they look. Or, choosing a ratio can be more simple - especially with help from plugins. Owen Gregory thinks we might look to musical scales for better harmony. Billy Whited gave several tips for choosing a scale, and Nathan Ford wrote about choosing ratios as part of deriving layout from your typeface. Ratios can be chosen carefully and meaningfully, drawing inspiration from the history and character of a typeface or other elements in a project. If your layout has important fixed-width images or ads, you could use those widths. If you want to get more nerdy, dig into the font metrics of your typeface (x-height, for example) and use that data as a base. Read More Meaningful Typography (Tim Brown)īody text type size is a good place to start.Introduced at Build 2010 (video, Tim Brown). You can use a scale to measure or set the size of any element or negative space in a composition - including grids, and the overall dimensions of the composition itself. Many people set heading type sizes with numbers from a scale, but that's just one possibility. Opening across the Philippines on August 06, “Lucy” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures. But the Oscar-winning actor, who will turn 84 this summer, just lent his support to a PSA for. The veteran actor offers that Professor Norman is flattered to be contacted by Lucy: “When she calls him up and says, ‘I’ve read everything you wrote,’ he replies, ‘You can’t have.’ And when she starts quoting what he wrote, he says, ‘We’ve got to meet.” Morgan Freeman is quoted in a million memes usually out of context or out of wishful thinking. Because he’s preeminent in the field, he is tracked down by Lucy, who’s trying to figure out what’s going on with her brain.” “He gives lectures all over the world and has been at the Sorbonne, in Paris, for a number of years. “Professor Norman has written about the brain for years,” he says. “So, to play the character of wisdom in the film, it was pretty obvious that he was the perfect actor.”įreeman was equally excited to join the cast, admitting that he holds his character in high esteem. “Morgan is one of the only people who could play God,” she enthuses. Producer Virginie Besson-Silla was also thrilled to see Freeman come aboard. And secondly, he’s such a good actor that you believe everything he says.” It was a pleasure for him just to talk about it. First of all, he’s fascinated by the theory we develop in the movie because he’s very familiar with it, which I didn’t know before we met for the film. Writer-director Luc Besson notes: “Morgan Freeman is the ultimate professor, for two reasons. The production was fortunate enough to have Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman join the team as the world-renowned neurologist whose lifelong focus is how we access the information stored in our brain.Īs Freeman is quite a science buff, and particularly enthusiastic about the mind’s capacity, the actor was a natural choice. Soon after she is supercharged, she finds herself able to do anything from learning Chinese in an hour to beginning to control space and time. Lioness, directed by Taylor Sheridan, the filmmaker of Yellowstone, will also feature Freeman.Universal Pictures’ new mind-bending action thriller “Lucy” examines the possibility of what one human could truly do if she unlocked 100 percent of her brain capacity and accessed the furthest reaches of her mind.Īs her abilities keep evolving, Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) reaches out to Professor Samuel Norman, an expert on the human brain, to try to understand what is happening to her. The remaining cast for the future film has not yet been revealed. The co-writers of the action thriller are Logothetis and Gray Scott Thompson (The Fast and the Furious), and the action thriller is produced by Joel Shapiro (Killerman, Dear Dictator). In Alabama, Gunner will begin filming this spring. Freeman is deceivingly complex and perfect for Gunner.” See the page quote if you dont believe us. His distinctive and authoritative voice and his calm, measured tones lend dignity and gravitas to everything he says. One of my most favorite and unforgettable performances of his is when he played the villain ‘Thaddeus Bradley’ in Now You See Me. Morgan Freeman (born Jin Memphis, Tennessee) is God note. “I feel so privileged to have Morgan Freeman in Gunner. “We’re pleased to work with him for a second time in such a distinct and fascinating capacity,” Perrier said of working with Morgan Freeman, who is such an exceptional talent.ĭirector of the film Gunner Dimitri Logothetis (Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxer: Retaliation) expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with Freeman and named Thaddeus Bradley from Now You See Me as his favourite portrayal by the actor. Speaking of Freeman’s casting, Delphine Perrier, COO of Highland Film Group, called him an unmatched talent. Hemsworth plays an ex-Special Ops soldier with extraordinary combat abilities in the action thriller. Ryker manages his organization efficiently while behind up until he encounters Gunner, who causes havoc on the gang in an effort to save his boys. Gunner’s sons discover a large drug cartel operation, which causes the son of the gang’s leader Kendrick Ryker to kidnap them (Freeman). In the action thriller Gunner, Hemsworth plays Special Ops veteran Lee Gunner, who battles a drug cartel when his two boys are taken hostage while he is out fishing. In contrast to Hemsworth (Westworld), who plays the protagonist, the award-winning actor will play the evil overlord. The upcoming action thriller film Gunner will star Luke Hemsworth alongside Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman. Each character has their own, unique hour-long track that unfolds in real time. In a nutshell, the actors mainly use dance to communicate. The story is primarily told through meticulously choreographed dynamic movement with almost no dialogue. Whichever ticket you buy, plan on arriving at the building at least half an hour before your time slot so that you can maximize your time. Often times there are two shows per night – start times ranging from 4pm for the early birds to 10:30pm for the night owls. You will have two more chances to watch the “beginning” of the show as it loops back around later in the evening. That being said, the show consists of three one-hour-long loops, so if the first entry time is sold out, don’t panic. If you decide to purchase a ticket to anything other than the earliest time slot, know that you will be missing out on the very beginning of the story. SLEEP NO MORE is an immersive adaptation of Macbeth with a run time of about three hours. I want to share it with others, and more importantly, I want to pass on the respect and gratitude that I feel toward the show. All of this is to say that I care deeply about this show. The memory of that very first visit led me to seek out the immersive theater community in L.A. Particular songs, smells, or even the décor in some hip speakeasy will immediately snap me back to 2011 and the first time that I experienced the show. One might even say my wedding had a subtle SLEEP NO MORE theme. I spent a summer working front of house on the show and sneaking into the space on my breaks. I’ve shelled out money that I didn’t really have in order to return to the McKittrick Hotel a dozen times since the show opened. Now, I don’t claim to be the end-all-be-all expert, but for the better part of a decade, this show has been a constant influence in my life. Still just as obsessed as ever, my friend had volunteered on the show by “fireproofing the apothecary,” a phrase that sounded completely ridiculous at the time, but is wholly impressive in retrospect. A few years later, in March of 2011, SLEEP NO MORE opened its doors in New York. I can only remember tiny details something about Shakespeare, something about the show being staged in an old elementary school, and something about… dancing? I didn’t get it. I had never seen someone talk about a show with such fervor. The study included 947 pregnant women who had simultaneous glucose measurements available (blood capillary and venous blood OGTT). Sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve of the glucose measurements obtained for capillary blood compared with venous plasma (gold standard) were calculated to determine diagnostic accuracy. The study endpoint was the comparability of the glucometer results to the gold standard OGTT when collected simultaneously. Participants were evaluated using the plasmatic 2-h 75-g OGTT with simultaneous capillary blood glucose measurements using a glucometer. Pregnant women who participated in a previous prospective multicenter longitudinal cohort study and who had not been previously diagnosed with diabetes were included. This study compared capillary blood glucose testing with 2-h plasma glucose measurements obtained using the 75-g OGTT to screen for GDM at primary healthcare clinics in Mexico. Nevertheless, no significant difference was found in the prevalence of LGA newborns.įew pregnant women in low-resource settings are screened for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) using the gold standard oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). With use of the IADPSG criteria, the prevalence of GDM increased almost 3-fold in comparison with that for the ADA criteria. The frequency of LGA newborns was 7.4% based on IADPSG criteria and 6.0% based on ADA criteria-no significant difference (P =. Fasting glucose concentrations during the 100-g 3-hour oral glucose tolerance test were abnormal in 116 women (14.4%) and in 160 women (19.9%) on the basis of ADA and IADPSG criteria, respectively (P =. The ADA criteria identified 83 women (10.3%) whereas the IADPSG criteria diagnosed 242 women (30.1%) having GDM (P =. To explore the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), defined by the previous criteria of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), as well as the criteria suggested by the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG), in an unselected group of urban Mexican pregnant women and to analyze the frequency of large for gestational age (LGA) newborns in this same group of women with use of both diagnostic criteria.Ī cross-sectional study included 803 consecutive Mexican urban women with a singleton pregnancy, without concomitant diseases and no prior history of GDM, who underwent a 2-step screening protocol for diagnosis of GDM at admission to prenatal care. Then using this object we called the “getClass ()” method to get an object obj_test of. In the first line, we created an object of Test class. GetClass() method uses object of a class to get the object.įor example, consider the following piece of code: Test obj = new Test () Class obj_test = obj.getClass () Then we can use the obj_test to perform reflection as this object will have all the information about the class Test.įorName () method takes the name of the class as an argument and returns the Class object.įor example, the object of the Test class can be created as follows: class obj_test = Class.forName (“Test”) class extension.įor example, if Test is a class, then we can create a Class object as follows: Class obj_test = Test.class The first option to create an object of Class is by using the. We can create objects of using one of the following options. Methods to inspect and modify the behavior of a class at run time. Methods to retrieve class metadata at run time. This is the main class used for reflection. The class holds all the information and data about classes and objects at runtime. Next, we will discuss each of these classes and use programming examples to demonstrate the reflection on these classes. Modifier: Modifier class gives us information about a specific access modifier.Īll the above classes are a part of package.Constructor: Constructor class gives information about class constructor that includes constructor access modifier, constructor name, and parameter types.Method: The Method class can help us to extract information like access modifier of the method, method return type, method name, method parameter types, and exception types raised by the method.Field: The Field class has information that we use to declare a variable or a field like a datatype (int, double, String, etc.), access modifier (private, public, protected, etc.), name (identifier) and value.Using Reflection API, we can implement the reflection on the following entities: It is used, when your application has third-party libraries and when you want to know about the classes and methods available.IDE (Integrated Development Environment) E.g.Reflection is mainly used in debugging tools, JUnit, and frameworks to inspect and change the behavior at runtime.A distinguishing feature of Reflection API is that we can also manipulate the private data members or methods of the class. We use Reflection API provided by the above packages to modify the class and its members including fields, methods, constructors, etc. The special class “” provides the methods and properties to extract metadata using which we can inspect and modify the class behavior. In Java, the “java.lang” and “” are the two packages that provide classes for reflection. We inspect these objects and then change their behavior at runtime using reflection API. The objects can be anything like methods, interfaces, classes, etc. Thus we can use Reflection API in our programs for the purpose of modifying the object’s behavior. As a result, we can modify the behavior of this object at runtime. Then we use the Reflection API on this object. In the above representation, we can see that we have an unknown object. The “Reflection” process is depicted below. Reflection is an “Application Programming Interface” (API) provided by Java. An object can be a class, a field, or a method.” Thus a Reflection can be defined as a “technique of inspecting and modifying the runtime behavior of an unknown object at run time. Java programming language provides a feature called “Reflection” that allows us to modify the runtime behavior of a class or field or method at runtime. In other words, it is very difficult to change the behavior of various programming components at runtime especially for unknown objects. Whether the properties and methods are anonymous or have names, they can be changed at our will during compile time.īut we cannot change these classes or methods or fields at runtime on the fly. We are aware that in a given class we can modify its properties and methods at compile time and it is very easy to do so. 4,5 This balance is critical to maintaining energy homeostasis. With cataplerosis, other intermediates are removed to drive gluconeogenesis and lipogenesis. 5 In anaplerosis, intermediates are continuously replenished to sustain TCA cycle function and drive ATP production. 4 For proper TCA cycle function, inflow of substrates (anaplerosis) must be balanced by outflow (cataplerosis). The metabolism of LCFAs to support creation of energy focuses on oxidation of acetyl-CoA in the mitochondrial TCA cycle. 2 This energy is especially critical during periods of fasting when glucose is unavailable and during periods of physiologic stress. 2,3Acetyl-CoA can be utilized as a substrate in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle to create additional reducing equivalents for the electron transport chain, or it can be utilized for ketone synthesis, an alternate form of energy for the brain, myocardium, muscle, kidney, and other tissues. 2 Once inside the mitochondrial matrix, β-oxidation progresses in a cycle of 4 steps, which result in the sequential cleavage of 2-carbon acetyl-coenzyme A (CoA) from the fatty acid chain and the transfer of electrons to the respiratory chain for adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production (Figure). 1 Short-chain and medium-chain fatty acids can enter the mitochondria directly, but long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) must be transferred in via a shuttle involving 3 enzymes/transporters and carnitine. The Role of Fatty Acids in Production of Energyįatty acids provide a major energy source for the myocardium, skeletal muscle, and liver via β-oxidation, which occurs in the mitochondria. It also provides the most recent clinical safety and efficacy data for triheptanoin and other therapies under investigation. This article provides an overview of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and current management approaches for the diagnosis and management of LC-FAODs. Due to favorable safety and efficacy data from clinical trials, this novel agent has the potential to transform the treatment of LC-FAODs and improve patient outcomes in this patient population. In recent years, the use of medium, odd-chain fatty acids, such as triheptanoin, have been studied as a treatment of LC-FAODs due to its anaplerotic properties. Despite this therapy, patients with LC-FAODs continue to experience recurring hospitalizations, and high morbidity and mortality rates. The current standard therapy for LC-FAODs is avoidance of fasting and supplementation of medium-chain triglyceride oil, an even, medium-chain fatty acid that does not require the typical steps of LC-FAOD for metabolism. Despite newborn screening, current management options leave many patients continuing to experience major clinical events, and mortality rates remain elevated. LC-FAODs are caused by mutations in nuclear genes encoding mitochondrial enzymes involved in the conversion of dietary long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) into energy during times of fasting and physiologic stress. These clinical manifestations can lead to frequent hospitalizations and premature death. Patients may present with rhabdomyolysis induced by exercise fasting or illness hepatic dysfunction, including severe hypoglycemia and hyperammonemia and cardiomyopathy.
